The organization’s humble beginnings trace back to the establishment of its inaugural school in Umer Goth, Gadap Karachi, where it initially had a modest group of 65 students. Despite grappling with limited resources, GCT’s resolute dedication to its cause, coupled with the fervent support of local communities, propelled its growth trajectory.

This unwavering resolve enabled GCT to transcend its initial constraints and establish a robust network of schools, thereby extending educational opportunities to thousands of children across the region. Over the past three decades, GCT has undertaken an impressive array of charitable initiatives, encompassing over 3,800 projects aimed at uplifting marginalized communities. Presently, GCT oversees a vast educational network comprising more than 166 schools with over 32,000 students.

These institutions are supervised by a dedicated team of 1,654 trained teachers who are selected and equipped to deliver quality education in underserved regions of Sindh and Balochistan. The organization aims to enroll 100,000 out-of-school children by 2025. The trust has a dedicated team of seasoned professionals operating under the auspices of its Board of Trustees. Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD)

The Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD) is a pivotal institution dedicated to elevating education standards through comprehensive curriculum development, robust teacher training initiatives, and community engagement efforts. The Water Project at Tharparkar

The Water Project

Recognizing the acute scarcity of water in the Tharparkar region, GCT embarked on a transformative venture known as “The Water Project” in 2014. This initiative was conceived to address the profound challenges posed by water scarcity and its detrimental impact on the livelihoods and well-being of communities residing in this arid terrain.

The primary objective of the project is to alleviate the pervasive water crisis by implementing a comprehensive solution that ensures easy, safe, and sustainable access to this vital resource. By facilitating the installation of tube wells, the initiative aims to catalyze a paradigm shift in the quality of life for the residents of Tharparkar, thereby fostering improvements in health outcomes, economic opportunities, and access to education. The water project has served approximately 1,600 villages and over 600,000 people are beneficiaries in Tharparkar. Upon completion of each water project, a committee of village elders is formed to oversee its operations and maintenance.

Moreover, a remarkable majority of 85 per cent of the 1,900 teaching and non-teaching staff are women, exemplifying GCT’s dedication to providing leadership opportunities and promoting gender diversity within its workforce. GCT collaborates closely with Al-Khidmat Foundation, a prominent non-profit organization in Pakistan to synchronize efforts in education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid. Recently, Al-Khidmat Foundation Pakistan and GCT agreed to collaborate in addressing the issues of out-of-school children and illiteracy in underprivileged areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

Together, they want to prioritize providing quality education to marginalized children, particularly in those areas of the two provinces, which have limited schooling access. By combining their expertise and resources, the organizations ensure that vulnerable communities receive comprehensive support to enhance their quality of life. Similarly, GCT partners with the Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) to leverage the influence of renowned cricketer Shahid Afridi in promoting education and healthcare initiatives. In collaboration, GCT and SAF oversee 12 charitable schools situated in underprivileged areas on the outskirts of Karachi. Through joint projects and campaigns, they raise awareness about education, hygiene, and preventive healthcare among disadvantaged populations. Utilizing Afridi’s national icon status, the partnership inspires positive behavior change and garners support for sustainable development interventions in remote and underserved regions.

GCT also collaborates with the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) to improve access to quality education and educational infrastructure in Sindh province. In partnership with SEF, GCT operates 17 charitable schools located in underprivileged areas of Sindh. Furthermore, GCT and Providentia Books Foundation have recently formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in advancing literacy, expanding educational opportunities, and fostering positive change in underserved communities across Pakistan. This partnership stems from a shared commitment to promoting quality education, with both organizations pooling their resources and expertise to achieve common goals. Through this MoU, GCT Hilal Schools now have access to essential course materials provided by Providentia Books Foundation, ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education. GCT and Providentia Books Foundation have joined hands to pave the way for accessible education for all, thereby making a significant impact on the educational landscape of Pakistan. Providentia Books Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization, dedicated to reducing the educational gap between affluent and disadvantaged communities in Pakistan. Through this venture, the organization acts as a bridge between book donors – those willing to contribute spare books – and book requestors, individuals seeking educational materials through the platform. These collaborations enhance GCT’s ability to provide holistic development solutions by leveraging the unique strengths and networks of each partner organization. By fostering synergy and collaboration, these partnerships exemplify a collective approach to social impact, driving positive change and empowering communities across Pakistan to thrive and prosper.

Organizational Structure

GCT adheres to all necessary fundraising regulations, at national and international levels, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and various regulatory bodies, including the Economic Affairs Division of the Federal government. The organization has obtained approvals, certifications, and NOCs to operate legally and transparently. To maintain financial transparency, GCT conducts regular internal and external audits, performed by globally recognized audit and accountancy firms, with the audit reports readily available on the organization’s website. These certifications bolster GCT’s reputation as a leading entity in Pakistan’s charitable sector. Moreover, GCT has established a robust corporate structure to streamline administrative management effectively. Its headquarters is in Karachi and operates with a team of over 50 dedicated staff members.

Oversight is provided by a Chief Operating Officer who supervises seven departments, each led by a department head. Weekly meetings are convened by the management committee, comprising patrons and department heads to address organizational and operational matters. GCT is committed to maintaining low administrative expenses, with a target of not exceeding 15% of its budget. This allocation strategy ensures that the bulk of funds received from donors, patrons, and supporters are directed towards the core objective of providing quality education to underprivileged children in Sindh.
