The Water Project
Recognizing the acute scarcity of water in the Tharparkar region, GCT embarked on a transformative venture known as “The Water Project” in 2014. This initiative was conceived to address the profound challenges posed by water scarcity and its detrimental impact on the livelihoods and well-being of communities residing in this arid terrain.
The primary objective of the project is to alleviate the pervasive water crisis by implementing a comprehensive solution that ensures easy, safe, and sustainable access to this vital resource. By facilitating the installation of tube wells, the initiative aims to catalyze a paradigm shift in the quality of life for the residents of Tharparkar, thereby fostering improvements in health outcomes, economic opportunities, and access to education. The water project has served approximately 1,600 villages and over 600,000 people are beneficiaries in Tharparkar. Upon completion of each water project, a committee of village elders is formed to oversee its operations and maintenance.
This tangible impact underscores the efficacy of Green Crescent Trust’s commitment to addressing the root causes of water scarcity and empowering communities with the foundational resources necessary for holistic development. Through strategic partnerships, community engagement, and innovative solutions, the Water Project embodies Green Crescent Trust’s ethos of proactive social intervention and sustainable development.
