PROLOGUE
1.1 Definitions of Patience
1.1.1 Two things define you: Your patience when you have nothing & your attitude when you have everything (unknown scholar).
1.1.2 The capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious (Wikipedia).
1.1.3 The ability to wait, or to continue doing something despite difficulties, or to suffer without complaining or becoming annoyed (Wikipedia)
1.2 Definitions of Anger
1.2.1 a strong feeling that makes you want to hurt someone or be unpleasant because of something unfair or unkind that has happened (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/anger):
1.2.2 Anger is a wind that blows out the lamp of mind
1.2.3 Anger is momentary madness so control your passion or it will control you.
1.2.4 One should not give any decision in a state of anger since reflection cannot be seen in boiling water.
2. OBSERVANCE OF PATIENCE
2.1 Verses From The Holy Book
2:45 | وَاسْتَعِيْنُوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلٰوةِ ۭ وَاِنَّهَا لَكَبِيْرَةٌ اِلَّا عَلَي الْخٰشِعِيْنَ 45ۧ | |
Seek Help in Patience and Prayer Seek help through patience and prayer. It is indeed exacting, but not for those who are humble in their hearts. | ||
2:153 | يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوا اسْتَعِيْنُوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلٰوةِ ۭاِنَّ اللّٰهَ مَعَ الصّٰبِرِيْنَ 153ۧ | |
Seek Help in Patience and Prayer O you who believe, seek help through patience and prayer. Surely, Allah is with those who are patient. | ||
13:22 | وَالَّذِيْنَ صَبَرُوا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِمْ وَاَقَامُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَاَنْفَقُوْا مِمَّا رَزَقْنٰهُمْ سِرًّا وَّعَلَانِيَةً وَّيَدْرَءُوْنَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ السَّيِّئَةَ اُولٰىِٕكَ لَهُمْ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ 22ۧ | |
Reward for Patience and those who observe patience in order to seek the pleasure of their Lord and establish SALAH and spend secretly and openly from what We have given to them and repel evil with good. Those are the ones for whom there is the ultimate abode. | ||
2.2 Beautiful Sayings, Traditions And Deeds Of The Holy Prophet (Peace And Blessing Of Allah Be Upon Him)
- Hazrat Abu Sayeed Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Holy Prophet (Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said, ‘There is no patient man but possesses power, and no wise man but possesses experience’ (MOSNAD AHMAD, AL-TRIMZI).
- Hazrat Mas’ud (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Holy Prophet (Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said, Patience is half of faith (ABU NOYEEM).
3. ANGER CONTROL
3.1 Verses from The Holy Book
A few verses from The Holy Book are reproduced as under:
3:134 | الَّذِيْنَ يُنْفِقُوْنَ فِي السَّرَّاۗءِ وَالضَّرَّاۗءِ وَالْكٰظِمِيْنَ الْغَيْظَ وَالْعَافِيْنَ عَنِ النَّاسِ ۭ وَاللّٰهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِيْنَ 134ۧ |
Restrainers of Anger The ones who spend (for Allah‘s sake) in prosperity and adversity, and those who control anger and forgive people. And Allah loves those who are good in their deeds. | |
9:15 | وَيُذْهِبْ غَيْظَ قُلُوْبِهِمْ ۭ وَيَتُوْبُ اللّٰهُ عَلٰي مَنْ يَّشَاۗءُ ۭوَاللّٰهُ عَلِيْمٌ حَكِيْمٌ 15ۧ |
Removal of Anger from Heart and remove the rage of their hearts. And Allah relents to whomsoever He wills. Allah is (All) Knowing, (All) Wise. | |
42:37 | وَالَّذِيْنَ يَجْتَنِبُوْنَ كَبٰرَ الْاِثْمِ وَالْـفَوَاحِشَ وَاِذَا مَا غَضِبُوْا هُمْ يَغْفِرُوْنَ 37ۧ |
Forgiving When Angry And (for) those who abstain from the major sins and from shameful acts and (for those who) when they get angry, they forgive. | |
3.2 Beautiful Sayings, Traditions And Deeds Of The Holy Prophet (Peace And Blessing Of Allah Be Upon Him)
- The Holy Prophet (Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said, Anyone among you feels angry while he was standing then, he may sit down, in case anger has not abated, let him lie down (MOSNAD AHMAD).
- The Holy Prophet (Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said, Anger is instigated by SATAN. Indeed SATAN has been created from the fire, the fire is extinguished with water. So when anyone of you is angry then he should make ablution (ABU DAWOOD).
- The Holy Prophet (Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said, When anyone of you is angry, he should keep silent (MOSNAD AHMAD).
4. MANAGEMENT Of ANGER
To abstain from losing temper following steps may be taken for its management:
- Control own feelings
- Be extrovert rather than introvert
- Express views rather than hiding them
- Show patience on other’s follies
- Avoid aggressive attitude when dealing with others
Emotional control
- Undertaking physical activities like sitting, body exercise, drinking water, washing face, ablution, etc. frequently
