Israeli attack on Iran

After the March 05 meeting with President Barrack Obama, Prime Minister of Israel Netanyahu feels free to attack and bomb Iran’s nuclear installations. US Officials believe that President Obama’s official and private acknowledgement of the Jewish states sovereign right to defend itself (against Irans threats) was a crucial gain for Israel to deter Tehran. Benjamin Netanyahu praised Obama’s willingness to use US military might to counter Iran. This was in sharp contrast to the outcome of Obama-Netanyahu meeting last year when the Israeli Prime Minister was rebuffed and the meeting had ended in disagreement and acrimony.

Talking to AIPAC leaders-American Israeli Public Affairs Committe, the powerful Jewish lobbyist group, Natanyahu said, “We have waited for diplomacy to work, we have waited for sanctions to work. None of us can wait any longer”; implying that Israel’s patience has run out. Netanyahu compared Irans Islamic leaders with leaders of Nazi Germany. It is worth mentioning that Imam Khameini has stated that Isreal is a cancerous tumor which needs to be cut off. President Ahmedinejad had called Israel a Cobra and a hydra, whose head must be chopped. Netanyahu called Iran “a threat to global security. Iran’s nulear ambition is a danger and a threat. Israel has put the Iran threat on the international order of priorities.

Former US Marine Amir Mirzaei

Meanwhile Tehran has sent a signal of compromise when Irans Supreme Court on March 05 over turned the death sentence for former US Marine Amir Mirzaei who had been seentenced to death for spying for the United States, and ordered a new trail. Despite the US and Isreali bonhomie disagreements remain in defining the imminence of the Iranian threat and desired response. These differences could haunt bilateral relationships in the coming months. The two allies remain at odd about defining and outlining the red line, which Iran must not cross in developing its nuclear program. President Obama needs Jewish support for winning his second term as US President, but wants graduated response to Iran’s nuclear weapn ambitions. Obama is not going to go beyond his broader policy of preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons by diplomacy, tough sanctions and as a last resort force.

The American public is sick of wars. The US military is suffering from war fatigue and the US does not have trillions to wage another major war. US economy is just coming out of three years of economic recession. Major cuts have been announced in the defence expenditure, with the size of the US Army and Marines being reduced. and major weapon programs for the US Air Force and US Navy being shelved. Israeli and Jewish conspiracies to push the United States into another global conflict is unlikely to work. Despite very strong urge to end the brutal massacres of Syrian people by dictator Bashar al Asad, the US Chairman Joint Chief of Staff in a televised interview, advised against use of force. When US military does not have the will and the strength to use force to stop the massacres in Syria, it is unlikely that Washington will allow Israel to suck it into a major war against Iran and invite global backlash.
