Dear Sir,

Thank you for the excellent article that you published in the Defence Journal of March, 98 The Battle of Khulna by Brig (Retd) Muhammad Hayat, Sj.

The parting of ways between West Pakistan and East Pakistan was written the day both were born. No amount of persuasion, reasoning or extra funds would have averted it, may be delayed the final outcome. Our only regret is that our misconceived strategy devised in all honesty brought a disgraceful surrender to Hindu India.

Our forces did well on the whole baring a few individual acts of cowardice and battle action failure due to lack of will, the selection of wrong and unworthy officers for command responsibility. It is unfortunate the after a battle is lost, due laurels are not accorded to the deserving. Brig Hayat indeed did well. He writes in his article regarding Major Nadir Pervaiz, Quote The unfortunate loss of this position took place due to some confusion which better remain unexplained Unquote, he has certainly aroused curiosity of the readers and he may be requested to tell the whole story, which I expect from a brilliant soldier of Pakistan.

I would like people who claim that East Pakistan could have been saved from parting its ways, to read Brig (Qazi) Shamsul Haq's articles, which are normally printed in the Urdu press. His article on the subject throws light on the process. From GHQ Delhi he was posted to East Pakistan where he reported for duty in September, 47. He has witnessed intresting incidents immediately after the birth of Pakistan that clearly point to the ingrained prejudice against Punjabi, ie (Outsider) even before the Punjabis had set foot on their territory. I may add here that the final chapter of Bangaldesh is yet to be written. Inshallah, Kashmir issue will settle to Pakistan's benefit and Hindu India will make up its territory in the East. There will be nobody to stop India from taking over Bangla Desh, first through Civil disobediance then through a cultivated quisling like the Khatri Sheikh Mujib.

I have photocopies of Brig. (Retd) Qazi Shamsul Haq's recent article. I can send copies to anyone desiring.

Your Truly

Nisarul Haq.

Dear Sir,

Assalam-o-aliekum. It fills me with pride to see your fabulous publication available on the Internet to a truly global audience. In my opinion not only will this help Pakistanis abroad learn more about their country's strategic situation, but will also project the Pakistani armed forces in a favourable light to a world audience. Personally, I buy your journal whenever I am in Pakistan, but since I am living abroad, I can not keep up to date with the publication. Now that it is online on the Internet, I will be able to do so. Bravo!

I would like to send you a paper that I have recently completed on Pakistan's defence situation vis-a-vis equipment acquisition problems and measures we can take to counter the across-the-border threat. I am attaching it below this e-mail and hope you will be kind enough to find it appropriate for publication in your esteemed journal. In any event, I would appreciate your feedback and even if it is not possible for you to print the paper, I would still be grateful if you could let me know to that effect.

Lastly, I would like to inform you that for the last one and a half years I have been running a web site dedicated to Pakistan's military at the following address:

http://www.ce.utexas.edu/stu/amir/htdocs/defenders

Apart from dozens of pages worth of information on the Pakistan military, this site has an interactive discussion forum where enthusiasts and those interested in defence matters contribute regularly. If you feel it appropriate you may provide a link to the Defenders of Pakistan' site from your internet journal. I have already done the same at my end.

best regards and my heartiest congratulations on your remarkable achievement,

Syed M. Amir Husain,
Austin, Texas.
